Overwatch Varsity y Program and Team Management

Overwatch Varsity Plan

Having been a part of the Overwatch Club for three years, I've witnessed its remarkable growth from a single team to now three. Our teams span a wide spectrum of skill levels, accommodating players from silver to Top 500 rankings. Looking ahead, I'm eager to further this expansion by introducing a fourth team next semester. Each year, Overwatch consistently draws the largest turnout for tryouts, with last year seeing an impressive 50 players fighting for spots.

Our dedication, coupled with support from the game and staff departments, has elevated Overwatch to an integral component of Champlain College, where now our top team is transitioning to a varsity program, giving scholarships to players and staff members. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for both myself and fellow students/staff who have dedicated themselves to elevating the club's profile.

Transitioning to the varsity program will increase player and staff expectations. My colleague John Player and I have developed a comprehensive plan outlining our vision for the program's evolution.

Team Management

As a team manager, my role encompasses overseeing both the varsity and club Overwatch teams to ensure their smooth operation and ultimate success. Much of my responsibilities revolve around communication with other teams, tournament administrators, and broadcasters, facilitating tasks such as team registration, scheduling games, and obtaining streaming permissions. Additionally, I manage various back-of-house duties, including updating team calendars, game information for broadcast, player rosters, and conducting tryouts and staff recruitment. Constantly strategizing for the program's future, I am also involved in finding scrims and seeking sponsorship opportunities to further promote the program.
